A Victorian Experience

Year 5 children experienced what it was like in a Victorian school. They all dressed up in clothes of the time and began the day by taking a whole school assembly. During the assembly Christopher played the part of Mr. Grindgrad, the school teacher, and we saw how strict it was. The assembly also included poems of the period - Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll and The Lamplighter by Robert Louis Stevenson. The songs told of the differences between the wealthy and the poor, and the boys acted out the story of Jim Jarvis and Dr. Barnardo.

The whol moring was a wonderful experience for the children as they learnt a variety of Victorian games and their lessons were just as they would have been one hundred and fifty years ago.

Thank you to all of the parents who dressed their children so beautifully and for sending in the toys and games.
