Remarkable Recitation

The infants and juniors at The Grantham Preparatory School celebrated remarkable success in February when both age groups won their Choral Speaking classes at a Schools' Festival. Competing against several other choral groups, 23 Year 5 and 6 children left parents in tears with their performance of Tennyson's "The Charge of the Light Brigade". They certainly expressed the emotion and horror of the fateful cavalry assault and kept perfectly in time, allowing their audience to hear every word.

The 22 infants impressed with their rendition of "The Dragon Who Ate Our School". Several of the children delivered solo verses: a brave achievement for six and seven year olds.

Both groups received excellent advice and encouragement from Mrs. Audrey Leyland, a former actress and drama teacher, whose grandson Alex performed with the infants.

The day also saw an amazing performance from the school band, who wowed a packed hall with the jazz number "Uncle Milo's Sideshow", ably accompanied by Science Teacher, Mr. Park on the drums!
